Waterloo Arts Looking for People to Create “Story” Garden Beds

Waterloo Arts is taking the art outside its gallery walls this season with its project to beautify the beds along the street of the Waterloo Arts District. Its Green Palette program is currently looking for artists and community members to “revitalize” those beds, many of which are overgrown with weeds and filled with trash (people, please stop this!)

It’s asking for individuals and groups to develop “stories” or themes for a bed they adopt:

“Maybe it’s a family recipe shared in a garden growing with its ingredients, or a native species garden that tells the history of a place. Could it be a pollinator garden that brings attention to the importance of bees? What about a lush olfactory experience associated with a loved one? Or maybe just a carefully selected combination of flowers that have significance in your life.”

Waterloo Arts will supply soil, tools, a small and water access. The garden “storytellers” will have help from artists and experienced gardeners to bring their idea to life and keep it maintained so don’t worry if you’ve never done a garden before.
