Piano Cleveland Hosts Digital Series on Listening Discerningly to Piano Music

The Cleveland International Piano Competition is respected around the world, attracting some of the most talented future stars of the instrument. Its parent organization, Piano Cleveland, also provides copious opportunities for northeast Ohioans to hear outstanding piano music.

Piano Cleveland has just announced the returned of its Listening Series: Prelude to Piano, a listening guide to the Cleveland International Piano Competition.  The three-part series, taking place online, will guide listeners who are serious about classical music in taking their knowledge to the next level. You’ll learn to listen to the competitors with a discerning ear so you can follow along with the judges as they make their decisions and try to rate the players along with them.

The first session is called “I Love a Piano (and You Will Too),” conducted by Cleveland Institute of Music faculty member Marshall Griffith. He’s give a short history of the piano, followed by a demonstration of its range and textures.
