Bassist Edgar Meyer’s reach extends from “Bluegrass to Bach,” as Akron’s Tuesday Musical Association has billed his upcoming show at E.J. Thomas Hall.

The 60-year-old Tennessee native has embraced both traditional and progressive bluegrass, classical music, world music and jazz. His compositions have been performed by artists ranging from Yo-Yo Ma, to Bela Fleck, to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, to the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

When he comes to Akron, he’ll perform J.S. Bach’s cello suite No. 1 and a work-in-progress of his own for solo bass, along with other pieces he’ll announce during the performance.

Of his new composition, Meyer says, “Although I have not finished this piece, there is enough written to be able to present a working version. This current version has opening and closing movements that are complete for the moment. In between them there will be 1 or 2 movements yet to be written that may or may not include the second movement that I will use for this concert, and the other movements may end up modified somewhat in reaction to whatever happens with the middle movements or just to correct existing flaws.”
