Beck Youth Theater Teens Write and Act in Their Own Virtual Production

Thu 3/25-Sun 3/28

Beck Center’s Youth Theater is using pandemic-imposed restricts to get fuel the creativity of its young participants.  In the past instructor/directors Rachel Green and Russell Stich have written the productions they present. But now they’re handing that job over to the students who will be performing.

The students gathered via Zoom to toss around their ideas and created the sketches that make up The Teen Untitled Sketch Show, filmed live and in person, socially distanced and masked. The writing process was guided by Patrick Ciamacco, co-founder/artistic director of Blank Canvas Theatre, who also directs the production, overseeing 24 youth thespians.

“This has been one of the roughest years,” says Ciamacco. “But theatre, and everyone involved in this show, help make each day a bit better. With the nature of our lives these days, artists are starved to create and collaborate. So we thought it would be fulfilling for the students to not only act in a piece, but also to create that piece from scratch.”

You can see the results of their work virtually at home from Thu 3/25-Sun 3/28. Go here to learn how to hook up.
