Thu 4/1 @ 10AM
After an inconsistent 2020 (as whose wasn’t?), Akron’s Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens opens for the 2021 season on Thursday April 1. Its theme of 2021 is “Restoration: If This Hall Could Talk,” which will spotlight the various restoration projects it’s undertaken since 2015 including 16 rooms in its Manor House, its perimeter stone wall, Tea Houses, Lagoons, Hidden Aspect and leaded glass windows in all four of its historical buildings.
It’s also introducing its new Outdoor History Tour, a guided tour of its gardens and grounds; its Nooks & Crannies Tour will be back in June. And it’s planning a full season of programs and special events and a new performing arts series to make up for all the things that it wasn’t able to host last year.
The performing arts series will feature theater, dance, music, film and visual arts in partnership with a variety of community organizations and arts groups including the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Ballet, Ohio Shakespeare Festival, Nightlight Cinemas, the Stan Hywet Goodyear Concert Band, photographer Ian Adams and plein air painter Jessica Henry Gray. Popular special events such as Founders’ Day Weekend and the Father’s Day Car Show, both in June, will be back this year.
Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens will be open Tuesday-Sunday @ 10am-6pm with last admission at 4:30pm. Guided tours of the Manor House will return in June if pandemic conditions allow.
