Young Australian Classical Guitarist Stephanie Jones Makes Her Cleveland Debut

Sat 2/27 @ 7:30PM

Stephanie Jones looks more like someone you’d run into at a hipster club like the Happy Dog than onstage at a classical music venue. But the young Australian, now studying in Germany, is a rising star in the once stuffy world of classical guitar.

She tried out many instruments, including piano, violin, sax and flute, before making a love match with guitar. Since then she’s gone on to win several major competitions, release a pair of solo albums and in 2016, join with three young German musicians to form the Weimar Guitar Quartet, who are currently working on their debut album.

The Cleveland Classical Guitar Society is hosting Jones for an online concert on Saturday February 27 where she’ll play music by Luis Bonfá, Leo Brouwer, Richard Charlton, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astor Piazzolla, Quique Sinesi and Francisco Tárrega, and premiere a new solo work by Seattle-based guitarist/composer/ educator Kevin Callahan. This will be her first time performing for the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society.

The show is free to listen to (of course, like all small arts presenters they would welcome your donations). If you RSVP you’ll get a pdf of the program plus an invitation to a post-concert Zoom reception. Go here.
