Cleveland Public Theatre Shares Part of an Ambitious Work in Progress

Wed 2/24-Sun 3/7

The Hypothesis Project is an ambitious, multi-part theater piece in creation by Cleveland Public Theatre artistic executive director Raymond Bobgan, who wrote the text, and the Cleveland COPE Ensemble of Bobgan, Kat Shy, Anastasía Urozhaeva, and Eric Wloszek, who jointly created the piece and perform it.

Dragon Hypothesis, which has its Zoom premiere through CPT this week, is just part of a larger project which we’re told “continues to seek a theatrical poetry, where image and idea, sound and substance, vision and virtuosity weave together in an effort to discover and articulate a piece of the ineffable human experience of meeting the mind … a mythical meditation on worlds of dream and divinity.”

They share a little about the adventure they plan to take the audience on: “Follow the river to the sea, follow a blind man falling into the depths, follow his daughter as she leaps beneath the waters, and the sea captain who plucks a flower off the water’s surface. Follow four actors who dive beneath the surface, seeking. Calling us to listen to the stories, and to the flame within, Dragon Hypothesis explores sacrifice and loss, hunger and dreams, birth and blindness, and above all, our deep interconnectedness. Magical storytelling digs at the surface world, and beneath the deep. For as we know, as infinitely as we can go outward, we can go as infinitely within. To fulfill our destiny, we go on…”

The piece will have seven performances: Wednesday February 24 @ 6pm, Thursday February 25 & Friday February 26 @ 7pm, Saturday February 27 @ 8pm, Wednesday March 3 @ 6pm, Frday March 5 @ 7pm, and Sunday March 7 @ 6pm.

Tickets for the 60-minute show are $1, with a suggested donation of $1-$99. Once you buy your ticket, you’ll get the Zoom log-in about one-two hours before showtime. Go here to buy tickets.
