Blank Canvas Theatre Drive-In Show Pays Tribute to Black Music

Fri 2/26-Sat 2/27 @ 8PM

Last year, Blank Canvas Theatre, located in the 78th Street Studios building, came up with an ingenious idea to keep its ensemble’s creativity flowing and its audiences entertained. It did a couple of “drive-in” shows where audience members parked their cars in 78th Street Studios’ spacious parking lot, and the performers appeared in the building’s large window, with sound piped out on loudspeakers or accessible via car radios.

It may be a tad cold now — your car has a heater, right? — but they’re doing it again. This time the performance is called “Make Them Hear You: A Celebration of Black Artistry in Musical Theatre.” In it, Blank Canvas’s actors will perform a repertoire of influential music written or performed by Black artists. They’ll be accompanied by a live band, and enhanced with lighting and projections for a full show experience. In addition, Ninja City from nearby Gordon Square will be selling food and drinks.

The show is one hour long. Grab your tickets now because their previous drive-in shows sold out; they’re $40 per car, and it’s rated PG-13 so you can bring the family. And if you sing along in the car, it’s ok, because no one else will be able to hear you! Parking lot opens at 7:15 and spots are first come/first served.
