Beck Center Debuts First Virtual Production, a One-Man Comedy

Fri 11/13-Sun 12/6

Live theater is such a personal and intimate, so dependent on actors and audience being together in an often very small space. Needless to say, it’s one of the arts that’s suffered most in the pandemic. And many small area theaters are just figuring out now how to move forward.

For instance, Lakewood’s Beck Center for the Arts is finally launching its 2020-21 season with its first virtual video-on-demand professional theater production called Fully Committed.

Becky Mode’s Fully Committed is a one-person comedy — no actor social distancing required — which will be performed by Nick Koesters, who was a familiar figure on Beck’s stage before decamping for Virginia’s Barter Theatre eight seasons ago. Koesters plays an unemployed actor who runs a reservation line at an in-demand eatery, which subjects him to all forms of abuse. Meanwhile, he’s dealing with family and career pressures. One actor plays 40 characters in this tour de force. Beck’s long-time artistic director Scott Spence directs.

From its opening on Friday November 13, through Sunday November 29, people can watch the production at home for $20 for one views, $30 or two or more, and $40 for two or more who just want to throw the theater a little more support in difficult times.  Viewers have 48 hours to watch.
