Akron Soul Train Presents Collaborative Art/Dance Film About Economic Disruption

Wed 11/25-Wed 12/23

Sat 12/5 @ 11AM-6PM

Akron Soul Train’s Capsoul Gallery will be the site of the screening of an unusual collaborative project called FEAST by a performance collective calling itself Creative Destruction. Akron Soul Train supported the project with a residency, in conjuction with SPACES gallery and the Andy Warhol Foundation.

Creative Destruction includes two dancers who work with Verb Ballets, Christina Lindhout and Kelly Korfage, and noted local visual artist Corrie Slawson. When they started working of FEAST, they intended it to be a live performance, but yeah, things changed, so they reconceived it as a film.

That film blends art and dance “to present narratives about economic theories, environmental degradation, and wealth distribution” and “explore the complexities of an economy through the interaction between dancers and objects.” In it, dancers interact with art and sculpture representing commodities: Sugar, Coffee, Bananas, Oil, Timber and Beef. The 32-minute film will be running on loop at Capsoul, where some of the props used in the film will also be on display.  There’ll be an opening reception on Saturday December 5 @ 11am-6pm at the Akron Soul Train Gallery in downtown Akron.
