Two Local Printmakers Show New Work at Akron Soul Train

Printmakers April Bleakney (Apemade) and Rebekah Wilhelm are both well-now in the area and have exhibited widely.  Over the summer they were the artists-in-residence at Akron Soul Train, which provides such work opportunities to artists in various disciplines.

What they’ve come up with is a show called Dual Forces, running from Wednesday October 14 through Saturday November 14. For this show, Bleakney has created screen prints and ’zines incorporating her investigate her 20-year collection of cookie fortunes and the insight and truths they often provide. Wilhelm has produced mixed-media prints, including a large-scale installation, that look at the difference between what an artist intends and what the viewer sees.

Akron Soul Train is hosting an opening reception on Thursday October 15 from 11am-8pm. You can sign up for a slot in advance at their website or just drop by and they’l let you in if the gallery isn’t crowded. Wear a mask though!  Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday 11am-4pm.
