Silent March Pays Tribute to Victims of Violence

Sat 10/31 @ 2-4PM

The overabundance of guns is a blight on American society, costing thousands of lives every year, whether thought domestic incidents (one of the largest killers of women), gang quarrels, drive-by shootings which often catch little kids in the crossfire, or suicide.

Two area groups, the Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance, which works to reduce violence in the city, and Moms Demand Action Cleveland, who works for rational gun safety laws, have joined together to host a Silent March for 100 Mothers, an event honoring those who have lost loved ones (especially children) to violence.

Executive director of Peacemakers Alliance, Myesha Crowe, points out, “The sad reality is that the grieving process of a mother is never ending — the internal and personal healing is interrupted when the shared pain of losing a child to violence is now affecting another mother. Many people hear and see the pain of grieving mothers. But it is time for us to feel the pain the ongoing pain that continues when it is no longer a household conversation,”

Moms Demand Action Cleveland volunteer Mary Anne Crampton adds, “We stand in solidarity with survivors of gun violence and welcome this opportunity to amplify the voices of those who suffer from its lasting impact. We do not have to live like this.”

Halloween was chosen for the event, based on the idea of wearing a mask of being OK even when you’re not.

The march will start at the Glenville Recreation Center (680 East 113th Street) and proceed through the neighborhood, followed by closing remarks. Marchers are asked to be silent and respectful. There will be an art station to make signs and posters to express your thoughts. Please were a facial covering and maintain a six-foot distance from anyone not in your household.
