DANCECleveland Kicks Off Fall Programing With Ballet Hispanico’s “Carmen”

Sat 10/10-Wed 10/14

Like many arts presenters, DANCECleveland has had to reinvent it 202021 season from scratch (Remember when arts groups were announcing seasons under the impression that we’d be back to normal by fall? Back when we still thought there might be some sane leadership response?)

Instead of a live season at Playhouse Square, DANCECleveland will be offering its Virtual Fall Series, presenting four dance companies, with performances, pre-show talks with artists and more. And you can choose your level on interest and commitment.

It kicks off on Friday October 10, with a performance of Carmen by Ballet Hispanico. The New York-based company has been presenting Latin-themed productions for 50 years, combining classical ballet, modern dance and Latin dance to emphasize the rich diversity of Latin culture. Its version of the beloved 1875 dramatic opera Carmen by Georges Bizet. The company has updated it with contemporary dance forms and a design inspired by Pablo Picasso.

A Gold Access Pass allows a viewer to stream the performance between Saturday October10 and Wednesday October 14 plus a taped pre-show talk by Ballet Hispanico artistic director Eduardo Vilaro. A Bronze Access pass gives a viewer at 24-hour window to watch from between October 10-11.

Passholders will also get access to other content, including a digital playbill, Hispanic Heritage month programming with Ballet Hispanico from October 5-9 including conversations, salsa classes and cooking classes (info at ballethispanico.org/bunidos/HHM), and more.

DANCECleveland’s fall series also includes “Agua Furiosa”by Contra-Tiempo (October 17), “Snap” & “A Trick Of The Light” by BODYTRAFFIC (November 7) and “Around Town” by Daid Dorfman Dance (November 14)
