Cleveland Public Theatre Celebrates a Scaled-Back Dia de Muertos

Sat 10/31 & Sun 11/1

We’re certainly going to miss the colorful procession and live performances that make Cleveland Public Theatre’s annual celebration of Dia de Muertos so special. But for this year, its 15th, those festivities have been dialed back in consideration of people’s health.

This traditional Mexican holiday pays tribute to one’s ancestors and this year, praying that no one becomes a deceased ancestor before their time, thanks to the indifference and incompetence of federal “leadership.”

The focus this year, then, will be on the traditional altars people create for the day, which include  things such a photos, food, candles, flowers and the traditional sugar skulls many of us have come to associate with this memorial holiday, with a focus on items that remind them of their loved ones who have passed.

There will be an in-person display of altars created by local artists at Cleveland Public Theatre’s Church Parish Hall and the surrounding area from 1-9pm on Saturday October 31, as well as a virtual altar exhibition from 3-7pm streamed on CPT’s Facebook and YouTube pages. They’ll be on view through Sun 1/11 @ 6pm.
