Western Reserve Herb Society Holds Virtual “No Fair, Herb Fair”

Through October 10

Herbs have been used for both culinary and medicinal purposes for thousands of years — and the science behind their effectiveness has been proven in actual use. Despite what the “president” says,  science DOES know!

Here in northeast Ohio the Western Reserve Herb Society is devoted to share the wonders of herbs — both their tastiness and how they can be useful in aiding your health. The organization maintains the beautiful herb garden at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, where it hosts its Herb Fair, its biggest annual fundraiser, in October each year.

It would have been celebrating the 75th year of that event this year, but now that’s bee postponed until 2021. Instead, to raise the needed money, it’s holding a “No Fair, Herb Fair!” donation drive, through October 10. During that time it will offer information online about herbs and tips for using them as a sort of “virtual herb fair.” That includes recipes, videos, herb lore and photos of herbs. They’ll be offering daily educational information, sharing how to grow, harvest and preserve herbs, how to use them in teas, potpourris and baking, and more. You’ll find all of this on their website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The best part is that while the growing season is drawing to a close, there are some herbs you can still raise inside on your windowsill. So get going, log in and make a donation to fuel this educational nonprofit group’s activities.
