Women’s Role in Social Activism Explored in Virtual Talk

Tue 8/18 @ 7-8:30PM

Even though women just got the right to vote 100 years ago, a majority of the low level work that keeps campaigns running is done by women (although men often get the glory). And many activist movements, including Black Lives Matter, were created by women.

Heather Hurwitz, a lecturer in sociology at Case Western Rererve University, will talk about women’s role in social activism movements, starting with the suffragist Movement that led to the 19th Amendment and covering women’s roles in the environmental movement, Occupy and BLM. The virtual program is a collaboration with the League of Women Voters of Greater Cleveland.
