Michigan Musicians Invade Riverdog Retreat

Sat 8/8 @ 7:30PM

Desperate to hear live music? Lorain County’s Riverdog Retreat is back up and running as of August 1with some changes. This summer, the shows won’t be in the barn and surrounding area, but out in a meadow they’ve mowed for this purpose. Chairs and tables either under a canopy or outside it are socially distanced or you can stake out a place for yourself further out — bring your own chair or they’ll provide one. Masks required!

This week’s show features Michigan duo Dave Boutette and Kristi Lynn Davis, regular and favorites at Riverdog (this is their fifth appearance there). Boutette, a veteran of a decade with Detroit’s Junk Monkeys from the mid 80s to the mid 90s, gravitated to the acoustic singer/songwriter scene once that band broke up. Since then he’s focused on sharpening his formidable songwriting skills, turning out tunes drenched in American roots genres such as folk, blues and traditional country. His wife Kristi Davis, a singer/dancer who has been a Radio City Rockette and a member of Playboy’s Girls on Rock ad Roll, is also a strong songwriter.

Fellow Michigander Chris Buhalis, accompanied by dobro player Dave Keeny, is also on the bill. Each act will do a set, and then they’ll combine forces for some Woody Guthrie tunes. Wonder if they’ll do Guthrie’s “Old Man Trump” where he addressed the Trump’s father’s racism.

Tickets are $22 and must be reserved and paid for in advance. Gates open at 6pm, and as always you are welcome to bring your picnic basket and cooler (alcohol is permitted) and hang out.
