GroundWorks DanceTheater’s NextSpace Offers Talks, Classes & Pop-Up Performances

Through Sat 8/22

Despite the cancellation of most summer dance events and series, GroundWorks DanceTheater is finally ways to keep busy. It’s developed, NextSpace, a series of both virtual and live activities and events at various locations in Cleveland and Akron, running through August 22. It includes artist talks, movement classes for both dancers and non-dancers, and pop-up and drive-in performances. And GroundWorks dancers and staff are sharing photos of murals and other public art works, providing information about the artists and their work.

On Wednesday August 5 @ 3pm, the company will hold a Creative Process class for pre-professional dancers 16 and up online, focusing on composition, improvisation, inspiration and creativity. This is an in-person class taking place in a grassy area; masks are required. It will repeat the class on Tuesday August 11 @ 3pm. Registration is required.

On Friday August 7 @ 5PM, Antonio Brown, founder/artistic director of Antonio Brown Dance, will talk about his approach to choreography and share some insight about the new commission he’s been working on for GroundWorks during the pandemic, moderated by GroundWorks’ Rebecca Burcher. It’s free but registration is required if you want to participate in the post-talk discussion and Q&A.

Also, the company will be doing two pop-up performances in the Agora parking lot next week Saturday August 15 @ 8:30 and 10pm. You can also register for those here.
