The Eastman Reading Garden at Cleveland Public Library is an urban oasis downtown. It’s a popular spot for reading, relaxing, lunching or people watching.
The garden offers wireless internet access, whimsical bronze figures and a private space for thoughtful reflection. For downtown workers, it’s an ideal spot for having lunch, reading or just relaxing from a stressful day. A gently flowing pool of water surrounded by granite paving blocks, designed Vietnam Veterans Memorial designer Maya Lin, is carved with an abstract language poem by her brother Tan Lin. And the library works with LAND Studio to bring temporary works of art to the garden each year.
The garden’s name honors of Linda Ann Eastman (1867–1963), director of the library from 1918-1938. It originally opened in 1937, and has been re-dedicated twice, as well as renovated and redesigned. It’s open during Main Library hours, Monday-Saturday @ 10am – 6pm. To read about the history of the Eastman Reading Garden, go here.
