Take Out Your Lawn & Landscape With Native Plants

Through Fri 7/17

Do you have a large space in your yard, or that lot you bought next door, or are even thinking of doing away with a perfectly mown lawn in your front yard in favor of creative landscaping, as many more people are doing?

Listen up: the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is selling fall native plant kits, featuring plants designed to flourish in this region without fertilizing or excess watering and to improve the local ecosystem. There are seven different kits for different purposes and areas: shade, wetland, rain garden prairie, prairie grass, butterfly/bird attractors, pollinator.

Each kit will cover 100 square feet with 50 plugs. Each is $140 and they’ll be shipped the week after Labor Day. These plants should go in the ground in early fall while it’s still warm so they have nine months to establish themselves.

Deadline for orders in July 17. To order go to cuyahogaswcd.org.
