YSU’s McDonough Museum Holds Two Virtual Exhibits

Youngstown State University’s McDonough Museum of Art is taking advantage of being closed to show art it might never have the chance to show on its walls. Instead, it’s got two virtual exhibits, which you can follow on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds.

One is called Artists Reaching & Teaching Students. It focuses on the work of Mahoning ad Trumbull County high school art teachers and their students. It will be available for viewing throughout the summer.

The other is titled #BlackLivesMatter #BlackArtistsMatter, and it gives the museum an opportunity to showcase black visual artists of local, national and international significance, both contemporary and historical. Some of the artists are well-known such as photographer Dawoud Bey (who was part of the 2018 FRONT International Triennial in Cleveland), 20th century painter and storyteller Jacob Lawrence and 89-year-old Faith Ringgold, whose work is pictured; some will be new to most. All include links to learn more about the artists. And they are taking suggestions from the community about other artists to include in this open-ended effort. Email them mcdonoughmuseumofart@ysu.edu.
