Rock Hall’s From The Vault Shares Highlights of Past Inductions

We were very excited to learn that Norm N. Nite, who launched the effort to win the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum for Cleveland back in the mid ’80s, has a book about the history of the project, called The House That Rock Built, coming out this fall.

In the meantime, though, the Rock Hall is making it easy to explore the histories of its inductees with copious online content. It’s been bringing out material “From the Vault,” which it debuts weekly, so you’ll want to get on the mailing list to find out what and when.

This week’s spotlight is on Motown: such greats as Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and the Supremes. Coming up May 31, it puts the spotlight on inductees associated with California, such as Jackson Browne, Buffalo Springfield, the Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, and Crosby Stills and Nash. You’ll get to see/hear presenter speeches, inductee acceptance speeches and special performances from past Rock Hall induction ceremonies.

From the Vault will feature Aretha Franklin the week of June 7, soul and blues musicians such as B.B. King, Sam Cooke, Billie Holiday and Curtis Mayfield June 14, and funk/R&B musicians, including James Brown, Ike & Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Sly & the Family Stone June 21

Meanwhile, this year’s induction, which was scheduled to take place at Public Hall May 2, is still on the calendar for November 7. Fingers crossed!
