Ohio City Provisions Offers Locally Raised Meats and More

“These last few weeks have been extremely challenging for all Americans. For us as food retailers, the challenge has been mostly around how to offer additional services to ensure social distancing and to help reduce the spread,” Ohio City Provisions writes to their customers.

The small artisanal shop on Lorain is grounded in its in-house butcher shop, but also offers local cheeses, produce, dairy, grains and products such as honey, syrups, chocolates and fermented foods — all locally made or grown. It’s open for in-store shopping every day from 10am-7pm, only admitting five people at once (the store is seldom crowded, one advantage of patronizing small shops), and customers are encouraged to wear masks, which their staff is doing. The store is also offering curbside service for next-day pickup, preferring customers email the order with items, quantities and phone numbers.

“The hardest part for us is keeping a live inventory of what is in the meat case as we are continuously cutting and fabricating new chops, steaks, roasts, and more,” says general manager Claire Bruch. “The inventory changes by the minute so the cashier might not know exactly what we have on hand, but we can easily find out and call you back. We are working on a general menu to put on our website, granted it is always subject to change. We do whole animal butchery, so whichever cuts they want, we generally have. We have 100% grassfed beef, raised at our owner Trevor Clatterbuck’s Wholesome Valley Farm, down in Holmes County.  We also have pasture-raised pork from the same farm. Finally we have pasture-raised poultry. Mostly chickens, but occasionally duck. These are also from Wholesome Valley Farm.”

In addition, OCP stocks organic produce from various local farms, and because it’s seasonal, don’t expect tomatoes now — or avocados ever!
