Dyngus Day Is Happening — Online

Mon 4/14 @ 1-3PM

If you’re a fan of Cleveland’s Dyngus Day Festival — a takeoff on a post-Easter Polish festival — you might find the idea of an online Dyngus Day a little weird. After all, it’s basically a big drunken bash in Gordon Square and surrounding neighborhoods, a time to let off steam after the deprivations of Lent.

But Dyngus Day will go on: on Facebook, that is. Cleveland International Records hosts the event, long with founder DJ Kishka, who will welcome guests at 1pm. That’ll be followed with a message from Steve Popovich Jr, whose late father was a Cleveland music icon who founded the label his son now runs. The Chardon Polka Band. Fred Zwich and Alex Meixner will provide musical performances; Lidia Trempe from Rudy’s in Parma with show you how to make pierogis at home while George from State Meats with do a kielbasa making demo — projects for your quarantine. There’ll also be special guest appearances from people such as former congressman Dennis Kucinich, head of the Polka Hall of Fame Joe Valencic, musician/former Frankie Yankovic sideman Joey Miskulin, and Matt Fish of Melt Bar and Grilled.

So crack open a cold one — you’ll have to provide your own beer — and enjoy from the comfort of your sofa. Tune in on Facebook or YouTube. They’ll also taking donations to try to make a festival happen later this year.
