Vote First, Then Go to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

UPDATE:

The St. Patrick’s Day parade has been cancelled. But you still need to vote!

Tue 3/17 @ 1:04PM

Two big things are happening on Tue 3/17: St. Patrick’s Day and Election Day. So before you head down to the for some great people-watching, make sure to stop In your local polling place and cast your ballot. Check your county board of elections for a sample ballot to see what’s on it, and educate yourself. Remember: while the presidential primary may be the high-profile race, the down ballot races are may even more important, and your vote can have even more impact there.

Cleveland ended up with this conflict because it’s one of the few cities that always holds its parade on the actual St. Patrick’s Day instead of a nearby weekend. It steps off at 1:04pm from the corner of East 18th and Superior and makes its way to the terminus at Ontario & Rockwell. The largest parade of the year, it features more than 200 delegations including high school marching bands, Irish dance schools, Police and firefighters, military groups, labor unions, local businesses and organizations such as the Cleveland Public Library, the League of Women Voters, the Cleveland Vegan Society, and Cleveland Metroparks, and animals: Irish setters, Irish wolfhounds, those adorable rescue dogs from City Dogs, sporting their “Adopt Me” jackets and even alpacas, sporting the green. This year’s theme is “Ireland’s scenic coastlines.”

Polls are open from 6:30am-7:30 pm and the St. Patrick’s Day parade website has links to the BoEs in the seven-county northeast Ohio area.
