Romantic Mozart Opera To Be Live Streamed in Oberlin

UPDATE FROM OBERLIN CONSERVATORY

While there are no suspected cases of COVID-19 on our campus or in our community, we have chosen to limit public gatherings for performances during the coming days to ensure the health and wellness of our community. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, Hall Auditorium will be closed to patrons for the Oberlin Opera Theater production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte.

The opera will still be performed, however, and we are currently working on the necessary technology to make the Saturday, March 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. performances available via live stream. We will publicize the link to the live stream as soon as it becomes available.

Wed 3/11 @ 8PM- Closed to the public

Fri 3/13 @ 8PM- Closed to the public

Sat 3/14 @ 8PM- Live stream ONLY

Sun 3/15 @ 2PM- Live stream ONLY

Mozart’s light-hearted two-act opera Cosi Fan Tutti debuted in 1790 but surprisingly, given its current ubiquity in the opera repertoire, it wasn’t performing in the United States until the Metropolitan Opera staged it in 1922.

The frothy plot involves two army officers who want to test whether their fiancées will be faithful when they are away. So they disguise themselves and “Albanians” to woo the woman, and of course, hilarity ensues.

Cosi Fan Tutti, with its romantic mistaken-identity plot and airy music, is the ideal piece to be performed by younger singer such as those with Oberlin Opera Theater which presents the work this week at Hall Auditorium on campus. Tickets are $10, $8 for students.
