DANCECleveland Shares Weekly Videos for Homebound Dance Fans

This week’s video features Ronald K. Brown/Evidence who will perform at Playhouse Square February 2, 2021.

Northeast Ohio dance presenting organization DANCECleveland was all set to present the Ohio premiere by the groundbreaking, multi-disciplinary Stephen Petronio Company, which, despite performing in 40 countries in its 36 years, had never appeared in the Buckeye State. The New York-based ensemble was scheduled to perform at Playhouse Square March 14 — just days after the state was shut down to inhibit the spread of COVID-19.

To help mollify dance fans’ disappointment, DANCECleveland has arranged with dance companies across the country to share a weekly video dance performance. These videos feature both companies DANCECleveland has presented in the past as well as some which will be featured in its 2020-21 which was announced just as things were being cancezlled.

“We reached out to several of our favorite dance companies and asked them to share a dance work that our northeast Ohio audiences could enjoy from the safety of their own homes,” says DANCECleveland executive director Pam Young. “We were happy to receive several videos and are sharing one video each week while we are practicing social distancing and look forward to being back together in the theater in the future.”

Each video will be released on Thursday. All you have to do to get the password-protected link is join DANCECleveland e-newsletter list by emailing sarah@dancecleveland.org.

Check out the upcoming season, which opens July 11 with Caleb Teicher and Company, with pianist Conrad Tao, at Playhouse Square’s Mimi Ohio Theatre, here.
