The ukulele has long been an introduction to playing music because of its small size and the ease of learning to play simple pieces on it. The Rubber City Ukes are a club of ukulele-playing amateurs of all skill levels, founded in 2016 to find more opportunities to play and perform together. Along with a similar group, the Highland Square Ukes, they’ve raised money to donate nine ukes to a school music program.

Ukulele player/vocalist Shelby Olive started playing at age 13, bringing influences from classical, jazz, pop and musical theater together in her music.

Olive and the Rubber City Ukes will be joining for a show called Ukulele Explosion at the Akron Civic Theatre, a great occasion to find out whether this user-friendly music appeals to you.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for kids 5-12, free for under 5.
