For movie lovers who can take in lots and lots of films in one sitting but have short attention spans, the Short. Sweet. Film. Fest. is back at the Alex Theater at the Metropolitan at the 9 for its ninth year.
All of the 150 (!) films being screen run less than 30 minutes, and although they come from all over the world, the emphasis is on the local filmmakers who are doing creative things right under our noses. In fact, the Friday evening and Sunday matinee screenings will be ALL local, and Thursday evening will feature student films, with the majority coming from northeast Ohio.
On Wednesday, opening night, viewers will see a mix of films from around the world and around the block, while Saturday will offer blocs of genre films: drama, comedy, animation, music videos and, of course, every novice filmmaker’s go-to genre: horror. Sunday will be heavy on documentaries.
In between there’ll be networking opportunities, workshops screenplay table readings and virtual reality films. Come OD on movies! Tickets range from $15-$25 for a single screening to $195 for a full festival pass with reserved seating and swag. If you want the same seat for five straight days, you can buy an executive pass for $395.
