You can always count on Tremont’s Prosperity Social Clubs to pull out all the stops for any holiday, whether its something widely celebrated like Valentine’s Day or some obscurity landmark they’ve unearthed (end of Prohibition, anyone?)
For Valentine’s Day, which fortuitously falls on a Friday this year, they’re going Polunesian with a Valen-TIKI-tini party. Tiki-themed items became popular after World War II when soldiers returned fro the South Pacific. “At that time Americans were fascinated with Polynesia, but apparently not enough to clarify the details—from drinks to décor, much of pop culture tiki is really cultural fusion or a total state-side invention,” explains Prosperity owner Bonnie Flinner.
Stop in Valentine’s Day evening for specialty drinks such as the Hemingway Daiquiri, Tremont Bird (named after the neighborhood’s resident wild turkey) or Mai Jam. “This is the creation of our beverage manager/AGM Jeffrey Siefer and it includes actual strawberry jam among its delicious ingredients,” says Flinner. There’ll also be a tiki-inspire menu featuring such items as teriyaki meatballs with mango/pineapple salsa, honey-ginger glazed blackened shrimp-and-chicken kabobs and toasted coconut rice key lime pie tarts.
Setting the tropical musical mood will be Martini Five O playing lounge/surf/exotica from 8-11pm
