“Gospel Meets Symphony” at Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall

Sat 2/8 @ 7:30PM

The Akron Symphony Orchestra’s biggest event of the year is its Gospel Meets Symphony concert, which is also its biggest community engagement initiative, both onstage and off.

The annual event features a chorus of nearly 200 voices from 77 area churches, dubbed the Gospel Meets Symphony Choir joining the orchestra and music director Christopher Wilkins for an evening of inspirational music. It features such beloved gospel tunes as “Rock-a My Soul,” “Blessed Assurance” and “Glorious Is Thy Name,” among others.

This concert also includes a couple of firsts: Jonathon Turner (pictured) will be serving as choirmaster for the first time, although he has worked with the concert for a decade, and it will feature the first junior gospel choir ever, the Gospel Meets Symphony 2.0 Choir, performing on two number, “Long As I Got King Jesus” and “Hosanna.”

Tickets start at $25 for the concert at E.J. Thomas Hall.
