Chicago Trio Plays “Great Black Music for Body, Mind & Spirit” at Nighttown

Wed 2/26 @ 7PM

The Chicago-based Ethnic Heritage Ensemble has been making music in one form or another for more than 46 years, engaging some of the most cutting-edge players in the city’s lively jazz scene. Founding member, 66-year-old percussionist/composer Kahil El’Zabar, for instance, was part of the legendary collective, the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), and served as its chairman from 1975-1983, and has worked with Pharoah Sanders, Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderley, Archie Shepp, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, and many more.

Current members of the Ethnic Heritage ensemble include trumpeter Corey Wilkes, who is currently a member of AACM and has a recurring role on the TV show Empire, and Detroit-based baritone sax player Alex Harding who has performed with Sun Ra, Roy Hargrove, James Carter and Aretha Franklin.

Their “Raise the Spirit” tour brings them back to Nighttown once again to play “great Black music for the mind, body and spirit.” Tickets are $20.
