Parma Library Screens PBS Immigration Film “Separated”

Thu 1/30 @ 6:45PM

In 2016, immigration wasn’t a top-of-mind issue for the average American — yet demonizing immigrants was one of the main themes of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

Fulfilling his ugly threats about immigrants turned out to be a flashpoint and a liability for him, as the scenes of children, some mere infants, being torn from their parents at the southern border galvanized millions and exposed the malignant cruelty underlying his ramped-up anti-immigrant policies.

The Frontline film Separated: Children at the Border, which debuted on PBS in 2018, explores U.S. immigration policies, how they’ve changed over the years, and how minors are treated when they arrive.

The film will screen at the Parma-Snow branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library Thu 1/30 @ 6:45pm, sponsored by the Greater Cleveland Immigrant Support Network. There will of course be a post-film discussion, because you know people will need to vent! There will even be refreshments to calm them down, although it’s hard to be calm in the face of what’s going on.

The screening is free.
