For the last several years, Cleveland’s NO EXIT New Music ensemble, which programs mostly newly written or commissioned pieces, many of them world premieres, has forged a partnership with the Zeitgeist quarter, a St. Paul, Minnesota group with a similar mission. They’ve performed in each other’s cities, expanding horizons in both.
Zeiteist returns to Cleveland for a series of January programs, hosted by NO EXIT. It includes pieces by composers from both northeast Ohio and the Minneapolis-St. Paul region. Among them are world premiers by Michael Renee Torres (“The Call to Arms”) and Jonathan Posthuma (selections from “Paul Klee: Painted Songs”), which will debut alongside compositions by Daniel Nass, Tiffany Skidmore, Pat O’Keefe, Doug Opel, Buck McDaniel, Pauline Oliveros and Giacinto Scelsi.
“We are thrilled to be sharing a stage once again with Zeitgeist and giving the world premiere of two newly commissioned pieces,” says NO EXIT artistic director Timothy Beyer. “The entire musical program, which includes nine works, will be a remarkable listening experience for enthusiasts of experimental and forward- thinking music. It’s a celebration of the singularity, diversity and aliveness that characterizes our regional avant-garde music scene.”
They perform Thu 1/16 at Kent State University’s Ludwig Recital Hall, Fri 1/17 at the BOP STOP and Sat 1/18 at Heights Arts. All concerts are free and no reservations are necessary. All are welcome!
