Hip-hop artist and community/festival organizer Floco Torres arrived in Akron just a few years ago, and immediately made himself at home and part of the community, contributing to building the Akron music scene. He claims to have released 23 “projects” in his solo career.

Just this week, he released new single called “Free!,” a positive, affirming track that includes lyrics such as “You asking if I’m free and I said
Free as the color of my skin its love to all my people
Free as the feeling and ability to drop the ego
Free as the life you live when time is something less than we hold
Free as the limits and how far we can go now get em.”

Torres has been rewarded for his work in the community with some high-profile gigs, such as this week’s Midwinter Blues & Other Tunes at the Akron Art Museum, where he’ll be the featured performer in the auditorium at 7pm.

It’s part of a Thursday evening of special activities which start at 5:30pm, with artist Hui-Chu Ying doing screenprinting demos in the lobby, a Color Forms wall art activity, and music in the galleries, which are free this evening. In fact, all activities are free except the concert which is $10 in advance, $12 at the door, or $8/$9 for AAM members.
