Don’t let the winter make you sedentary! There are lots of opportunities in the area to do some social dancing, where you can get some fun exercise and make new friends as well.
Northeast Ohio Contra Dance holds dances several times a month at different locations around northeast Ohio. One of those is Chagrin Falls Town Hall, where dancing happens the third Tuesday of every month.
Contra dancing is fun for all ages; bring the family, bring a partner or come alone and meet new people. Like swing dance and square dance (to which it’s a close cousin), contra dance is essentially a community social gathering. No special skills are needed and everyone gets to dance with everyone else before the evening is over.
All dances start with a half-hour lesson to build confidence, with regulars helping newcomers. And once you get out on the dance floor, as in square dancing the caller — Kenny Wilson — tells you what to do next. Dancing to live music by Stomp Culture happens from 8-10 so you’re not out too late on a Tuesday evening!
Admission is $10; $8 for youth.
