Ensemble Theatre Stages “Intimate Apparel,” the Story of a Black Seamstress in 1905 NYC

Fri 1/24-Sun 2/16

Lynn Nottage’s 2003 play Intimate Apparel takes place in New York City 1905. It follows the travails of a black seamstress named Esther, whose extraordinary skills have allowed her to build up a significant nest egg, but whose illiteracy makes her vulnerable to a romance via mail that’s not what it seems to be, Meanwhile, cultural and religious differences make a relationship with a man she’s attracted to unfeasible, as Esther relies on her talents and resilience to survive.

The show opens Fri 1/24 at Ensemble Theatre in Cleveland Heights with Sarah May directing. It runs Fridays and Saturdays @ 8pm and Sundays @ 2pm, through Sun 2/16. Tickets are $12-$29. The Sun 2/9 performance is sold out.
