Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn Bring Their Banjos to Kent

Mon 2/3 @ 8PM

Bela Fleck, who is now 61, is a legendary master of banjo. With the New Grass Revival and his own Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, he was a leader of the progressive bluegrass movement aka “newgrass.” He’s continually pushed the boundary of what his instrument can do in collaborations with other musicians, ranging from classical to jam to pop.

Back in the early ’00s, he met young banjo player Abigail Washburn, now 42. Impressed with her playing, he began to collaborate with her, sometimes informally and more formally in a group called the Sparrow Quartet. One thing led to another, and they married in 2009. Following the birth of their son in 2013, they became formally a touring and recording duo, releasing their first album in 2014. There’s a lot of speculation about when their son will make it a trio. Those genes!

They’ll be back at the Kent Stage this week. Tickets are $37 in advance, $47 at the door.
