Akron “Vagina Monologues” Performance Benefits Summit/Medina Rape Crisis Center

Fri 1/31 @ 8PM

Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues debuted in New York City in 1996. The episodic theater piece, based on interviews with more than 200 women, covers issues of sexuality, reproduction, sex work and other topics through the eyes of women of different ages, races, socio-economic classes and stages of life.

Since then it’s been performed all over the world in a variety of venues, by a variety of performers, including celebrities who are not necessarily actresses. It’s even had a transgender version. Many organizations perform it as a fundraiser for charities which benefit women at risk, with local celebrities as the drawing card. Its format, consisting of a series of monologues, lends itself to being performed by a varied number of actresses of any level of experience.

When The Vagina Monologues has its annual performance at the University of Akron’s EJ Thomas Hall, the cast will include students, faculty, staff and Akron community members. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties. Tickets are $10.
