78th Street Studios’ Third Friday Features Openings at HEDGE Gallery & E11even2

Fri 1/17 @ 5-9PM

A couple of openings highlight this month’s Third Friday at 78th Street Studios, where you’re bound to find something interesting on its fourth floors.

E11even2 Gallery once again features the work of one of its three artist/co-owners, photographer Christina Sadowski, whose urban photography is always arresting and visually exciting.

Her new show, Nightfall: Cleveland After Dark, features long-exposure nighttime photos of Cleveland’s buildings lit up, punctuated by cars and people on foot. She chose to use black & white to focus on the composition and content of the photos.

“When working in a monochromatic palette, you have to consider the subject matter and composition in a different manner than if you were using full color palette,” she says. “Contrast, shadows, tones and textures all guide the emotion behind the images. I hope this collection presents Cleveland as a thriving underdog.”

The show will be on view through Fri 2/21.

At HEDGE Gallery, the work of two noted local printmakers comprises the galleries annual Printmaking Spotlight exhibition: Jen Craun and Nicole Schneider.

Craun’s work uses silkscreen mono-printing with highly saturated pigments to create images inspired by hot air ballooning, capturing her experience of being aloft and free in the air. Schneider’s screen and relief prints explore the tension between order and chaos, drawing on formal abstraction and expressionism to create new forms out of shattered pieces.

“Both bodies of work confront being stretched and pulled in various directions, speaking of the duality of both hope and struggle, of optimism in times uncertain,” says the show’s press release.

It’s on view through 2/7.
