It’s a big night in the Waterloo Arts District, when its monthly Walk All Over Waterloo becoming the Winterloo holiday celebration, with lots of opportunity to buy local art and other handmade gift items, while enjoying a burst of holiday ambience indoors and out.
Outside there’ll be food trucks, fire dancers, music, fire pits, carolers and the lighting of the Waterloo Tower tree on the corner of East 156th and Waterloo.
Inside neighborhood businesses and galleries there’ll be all sorts of happenings. Waterloo Arts will have the opening of its Art of the Ornament show featuring hundreds of ornaments being sold to benefit Waterloo Arts’ education programs. They’ll have food and a cash bar serving wine and beer, and people rushing to claim their favorite ornament, designed and donated by area artists.
The Article Gallery will have a holiday art and craft show, featuring the work of artists with studios in the building, including ceramics, hand-made ornaments, prints, original art and other items at all price points. Across the street, Praxis Fiber Workshop will be showing work by Deb Berkebile, Joyce Jentoft and Sandy Shelenberger in Wild and Bloomin’. It features work on fabric using various techniques including batik, dye painting, experimental screen-printing processes and Shibori.
Up the street at Matt Shiffler Photographer, you’ll find landscape and wildlife images by Phil Sisto (Shiffler’s own work is currently on display at University Hospitals). They’ll be hosting a season beer tasting at the gallery, inviting drop-ins to bring a couple of craft beers to the gallery to share. Sesto will also be raffling off one of his pieces, with tickets going for $5.
Finally, don’t miss the opening of Rochelle Johnson’s Depictions at Framed Gallery, which specializes in art by African-American artists from across the country as well as artists from Africa. Johnson will be in the gallery for a meet-and-greet from 6-9pm.
