COOL NEWS: Akron Soul Train Announces Its 2020 Artist Residencies

Akron Soul Train is a project that provides monthly artist residencies to create new work and do community outreach, with a downtown Akron gallery to display the finished work and serve as a focal point. Visual show their work in the gallery, the group partners with other venues to showcase the musicians, dancers and theater artists its awards fellowships to. Artists also engage such community outreach components as workshops, artist talks, studio tours and social media activity.

The group recently held its SoulStice party to honor the artists who have had past residencies and to announce its next group of honorees. It received 78 applications and chose 16 artists in various field. They include Damien McClendon (Cleveland poet), Shani Richards (Akron metalsmith), Scott Goss (Shaker Heights interactive  installation artist), Christina Lindhout (Mansfield ballet choreographer), Timothy Gaewsky (Cleveland visual arts), Ryan Craycraft (Cleveland visual arts), Alan Manley and Red Rose Panic (Akron musician), Seth Nagelberg (Shaker Heights ceramicist), Neema Dorjee Bal (Akron theater), Justin Sorensen (Mount Vernon visual arts), Josy Jones (Akron theater), April Bleakney (Cleveland printmaker), Rebekah Wilhelm (Cleveland printmaker), Michael Credico (Lakewood fiction writer), Max Markwald (Akron painter) and Miriam Bennett (Akron filmmaker, photographer and installation artist).
