From now until Christmas, the blitz of local holiday markets continues, the chance to pick up unique, handmade, often locally made gifts for friends and family. Feel good about giving them something no one else did and avoid cheap, mass-produced crap from China!
The place to be this weekend is the Superior Arts District, where there will be several events going on. The biggie is the ArtCraft Building’s 32nd annual 32nd holiday sale and open studio. Throughout the building, you’ll find more than 30 artists who work there with open doors, plus another three dozen guest artists and entrepreneurs in corridors and open spaces. It takes place Sat 12/7 @ 10A-7PM and Sun 12/8 @ 11am-5pm. Be sure to stop in the Cleveland Print Room, located at the front of the building, where its annual members’ Off the Wall sale, which starts Fri 12/6 will run during the ArtCraft open house.
Be sure to head around the corner and down the block to Lake Affect Studios where some of the resident artists (including CoolCleveland’s fashion columnist Dru Thompson) will be open for business, and the Cleveland Bazaar, which has been sponsoring handmade fairs for more than 15 years, will be on the second floor, presenting a “teaser” market for its huge annual holiday bazaar at 78th Street Studios next weekend. There’s a bar too so you can relax and have some drinks between shopping sprees. That takes place from 10am-6pm.
Then walk down the street to the Tower Press Building where 16 artists who live/work there will be opening their studio doors and the main floor Wooltex Gallery will be filled with outside vendors offering mostly small handcrafted gift items. That runs Sat 12/7 @ 10am-7pm.

The North Union Farmers Market’s 12th annual Holiday Market takes place at the Van Aken District Market Hall Sat 12/7 @ 4-8pm and Sat 12/14 @ 10am-4pm. This is a great market to go to if you’re looking to gift friends with local edibles, as its farmers and food producers will have a range of specialty items. They’ll also have artisan crafts.

For one evening only, Fri 12/6 @ 4-8pm, the Holiday Market at Hale Farm and Village in Bath will offer Ohio-made crafts and holiday goodies with an old-fashioned flavor, fitting for the setting: a recreated 19th-century Ohio village. About two dozen vendors will offer items such as handcrafted candles, ornaments, honey, donuts and candies, with local beers from Hofbrauhaus Cleveland and mulled wine available to sip at fireside, along with food from the café, and acoustic music by Katy Robinson to set the mood. There’s also a local author book signing.

Rockefeller Greenhouse will again be hosting the Poinsettia & Green Arts Sale Fri 12/6 & Sat 12/7 @ 10am-4pm. Find an area of poinsettia plants for only $5, as well as handcrafted upcycled items made by local artists including greeting cards, plush toys, jewelry, knitted accessories and ceramics.
Zygote Press launches its annual Off the Wall Holiday Sale and Winter Showcase opens with a reception December 6 @ 7-9 pm, and continues Saturdays through December 21 11 am-6 pm; Sundays through December 22 noon-4 pm and weekdays 11 am-2 pm. Pick up a handmade print in a variety of processes created at Zygote’s studio, including woodcuts, lithography, screen prints and more, including work by some of the area’s best-known artists. They also have stocking stuffers such as cards, notebooks, mugs and T-shirts.

Little Italy’s annual Holiday Art Walk is a great chance to browse the galleries and shops of Cleveland’s original arts neighborhood. Check out the studios inside the old Murray Hill School, visit shops offering imported Italian household goods, art glass, handmade Cleveland-themed art prints, wines, and foods. It runs 5-9 pm Fri 12/6 @ 5-9pm, Sat 12/7 @ noon-9pm and Sun 12/28 @ noon-5pm.
Over at Mahall’s in Lakewood, the monthly Pro Shop Market will take on a holiday flavor on Small Business Saturday as the entire building fills with vendors selling both handcrafted items and collectible and vintage stuff — lots of jewelry and clothing, as well as stuff with a rock & roll flavor befitting the location inside a music club. There’ll be a DJ spinning music and the Luckey Ones will perform live on the main stage at the end of the market. There’s be a full menu of brunch food and cocktails available too. It runs Sat 11/30 @ 11am-5pm.
