The Offbeat Song Project Does German Lieder at the BOP STOP

Sun 11/24 @ 7PM

Are you a fan of German lieder? Then the Offbeat Song Project’s “A History of Lieder in 7 Composers” is the event for you!

The evening at the BOP STOP will follow the history of the German art song genre back to its origins, promising you will hear “everything from simply gorgeous love songs, to a song where a shepherd panics because his wife is having twins, to the height of teenage hormonal outbursts, and more!”

The first segment of the concert will include one song from each of the seven composers. During intermission, you’ll be asked to do some work though, in addition to getting yourself another drink. The audience will choose their favorite composer, and in the second part of the concert, the ensemble will play more of his work. The songs are all in German, of course, but there will be supertitles for those not familiar with the words.

If you’re wondering who the Offbeat Song Project is, it’s the newest local ensemble to form with the goal of bringing classical music — in this case, opera and vocal music — to non-traditional spaces and audiences. It was founded by singer Gwen DeLaney, a Boise native who came to Cleveland in 2016 to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her cat will not be singing.
Admission is $15.
