Independent bookstores, only recently thought to be an endangered species, are coming back in a big way. Indies First is a national initiative to promote these stores — which usually have an array of distinctive and offbeat gift items in addition to books — to Thanksgiving weekend shoppers. Stores across the country host special events, sales, giveways and author signings on Small Business Saturday.
Loganberry Books is going all out for the entire weekend, celebrating Friday through Sunday. There’ll be treats and free gifts with purchases, and a constant stream of authors, both local and out-of-town, with a pile of books to sell and sign.
Highlights include Erin O’Brien with her book Rust Belt Burlesque and Plain Dealer reporter Laura DeMarco with her book Mark Twain’s America: Then & Now on Friday, Collinwood’s Annie Hogsett with her local mystery The Devil’s Own Game, and William Krejci with Ghosts and Legends of Northern Ohio on Saturday, and area historian John Gabowski with Cleveland A to Z on Sunday. Find a full schedule on Loganberry’s website.
The events coincides with the Larchmere Holiday Stroll so plan plenty of time to check out all the shops on the streets and stop for a meal and some drinks.
