Foluke Cultural Arts in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood offers a variety of arts education, including music, dance, drama, stage production and African drumming, to young people whose opportunities might otherwise be limited.

As a benefit for its work. Foluke is presenting Ntozake Shange’s classic 1976 stage work, for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf. Referred to by Shange as a “choreopoem,” it features 20 poems/monologues with dance movements choreographed to music, telling the stories of seven women confronting the inmpacts of racism and sexism.

Dale Ricardo Shields directs, with Evette France, Jeannine Gaskin, Maya Jones, Sabrina McPherson, Tamicka Scruggs, Cristal Christian and Siara Willis playing the seven women.

The three performances take place at the Black Box Theatre at Tri-C Metro’s LiPuma Center for Creative Arts. Sunday’s matinee will be followed by a talkback. Tickets are $37.50 and are only available online in advance; none will be sold at the door.
