Northeast Ohio filmmaker Kevin Naughton did a film about homelessness in Akron called Inside Akron’s Tent City, which screened at the 2019 Cleveland International Film Festival. His follow-up film covers some of the same territory. Doubled Up explores homelessness among K-12 students in Akron, where approximately 10% of the students — around 2,000 — experience homelessness at some point during the year. It explores the impact of such instability on a student’s ability to learn.
There’ll be an advance screening of the short film at Tri-C Metro’s Belkin Theatre, followed by a panel discussion with Naughton, his team and local homelessness activists, and a reception.
