New York-based bassist/composer Michael Formanek began his career as a teenager in the 1970s, touring with Tony Williams and Joe Henderson. Since then, his formidable reputation has grown and grown, as he’s played with a range of noted jazz artists, as well as led his own ensembles.
His main band is his quartet, but he’s currently out on the road with a duo, whose other half is his son, reeds play Peter Formanek. Although they’re been making music together for 20 years, Peter lives in Detroit where he graduated from the University of Michigan in 2017, and this is the first time father and son are on tour together.
Their performance consists of compositions by each of them, improvised work and a few standards. They’ll perform at Mahall’s Apartment. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
