California’s Dustbowl Revival Bring their Energetic, Eclectic Americana Back to Town

Fri 11/22 @ 8PM

Venice, California’s Dustbowl Revival calls itself an “Americana soul band.” It reaches into the past for its eclectic mix of musical genres, but they’re not grim as the word “dustbowl” might suggest. Rather, they bring a spirited and upbeat attitude toward various styles of American roots music: early bluegrass, gospel, traditional blues, New Orleans jazz and Western swing, to name just a few. In the process, they utilize such a racket-y array of instruments including tuba, trombone, clarinet, trumpet, ukulele, mandolin, harmonica, kazoo and more.

The band was founded in 2008 by guitarist/vocalist Z. Lupetin, who gradually assembled the cast of eight players that now comprise the band. They’re known for their frenetic live shows, and with a new album Is It You, Is It Me ready to drop early next year, they’re hitting the road again to tease listeners with some of the music. They’ll be stopping at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall. Tickets are $24 in advance, $29 days of show.
