Submissions Are Open for the 24th Annual High School Rock Off

Through Mon 12/9

It’s time again for high school musicians to pull their entries together for the 24th annual High School Rock Off, which will take place at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in February 2020.

A lot has changed in 24 years. Once primarily a filler event for the slow winter months, it was a scramble to find bands in the mid 90s when teens just weren’t in that mindset. That’s not the case anymore — and thanks to the easy availability of music online, sophisticated young musicians incorporate influences from 70 years of popular music. And the entrants come from much farther away, not just northeast Ohio, to compete in the event, which offers a wealth of prizes, including the chance to apply for $2,000 scholarships for students who enroll at in Tri-C’s Creative Arts program.

Performance rounds take place at the Rock Hall on Saturday February 1, 8, 15 and 22 when each band will play a 15-minute set. Three bands from each round will be chosen to move on to The Final Exam, which takes place on Saturday February 29. Bands will be judged by music industry professionals.

All genres of bands — including solo musicians — are eligible to apply. All performers must be in grade 12 or lower next February and at least half the band members must be high school students.
